How many times
have you been to a play, seminar, visited a website or sat through a
presentation thinking “these people just don’t get it that this just does not
interest me”.
Most likely the reason
was that they were talking seemingly endlessly about themselves – when what
really matters to you is YOU.
Certainly their
product, service, etc..might be of interest, but it’s what it does for you.
WIIFM is an
acronym for the phrase What’s in it for me?
In my
communication enhancement workshops, I make it a point to about how important
it is to customize & adjust your presentation & communication to your
audience.
You know what you
want to say. After all, your topic is interesting and important … to you. But
what do you do to help your audience or learners?
As by doing so,
in effect, you were telling them, What’s In It For Them.
It’s all about
creating a relevant experience to sell an idea, product or concept.
After all, the
bottom line in any training or presentation is that it’s not about you, the
instructor; instead, it’s about your audience or the learners.
If they don’t get
why they’re there, it is unlikely for them to find value in what you have to
say.
So from now on…
Think about the group/audience you are targeting:
